Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, also known as UTPL, is located in the city of Loja, Ecuador. This renowned university aims to innovate in different areas of interest, such as teaching, research, and its connection with society and industry. Through its extensive work with Ecuadorian business leaders, the university realized one of the country's major problems is its lack of industrial modernization. With the exception of foreign companies that come to the country with the resources required to conduct business, the Ecuadorian industry does not have the necessary technology for the current market and is at a disadvantage in regard to delivering quality products at a competitive price point.
UTPL contacted Epson to help solve this problem. After much discussion, UTPL and Epson determined the best way for Ecuadorian businesses to remain competitive is through the creation of a state-of-the-art robotics laboratory to serve as a “think tank” where academic leaders could address business issues in a practical setting. In less than a month, UTPL and Epson collaborated to build out the laboratory.
