Growing up in various Caribbean and South American countries, naturalist and botanical artist Adele Rossetti developed a deep appreciation for the biodiversity of tropical environments. Her passion for documenting endangered ecosystems and contributing to their preservation won her a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Grant to research the Atlantic Forest of Brazil where her research project focused on extremely rare, undisturbed areas of a unique ecosystem within the Atlantic Forest, where Araucaria trees are the dominant species.
To accurately digitize rare and fragile herbarium specimens of primary growth flora as reference material for conservation efforts, and to supplement dried, pressed samples by recording the color and living form of the plants, Rossetti leveraged the Expression® 12000XL - a versatile scanner with a large-format flatbed that can digitize herbarium specimens for online study, as well as live plant material directly, providing professional-quality images that capture intricate details of form and accurate color.
