LONG BEACH, Calif. – May 6, 2015 – Prelaunch.com has announced the grand prize winners of the “Epson® Moverio® Develop the Future App Challenge,” a three-round, three-month competition aimed at inspiring developers and entrepreneurs to create apps showcasing the power and possibilities of the Epson Moverio augmented reality smart glasses.
Prefrontal Cortex of Halle, Germany, won the consumer augmented reality/gaming category with their “Dáskalos Chemistry” app. The app enables Moverio users to observe and analyze every element from the periodic table in augmented reality. Moving an atom closer to you reveals the inner structure, including electronic configuration and properties. Moving it further away shows the color-coded structure of the element using the CPK coloring scheme, the most popular system for distinguishing chemical elements. A video of the Dáskalos Chemistry app can be viewed here.
CN2 of Atlanta, Ga. won the enterprise application category with their “Visualizing the Future” app. Designed to assist in training medical staff on new devices, the app displays step-by-step AR instructions over a WellStar® Atrium Express™ chest drainage system. A video of the Visualizing the Future app can be viewed here.
The grand prize winners in the consumer and enterprise categories received $5,500 apiece.
“The winning entries from the challenge effectively showcase the potential of augmented reality on the Moverio platform,” said Eric Mizufuka, product manager, New Ventures for Epson America. “We wish to thank Prelaunch.com and all the entrants who are helping to shape the future of augmented reality on the Epson Moverio smart glasses.”
“KoZZmoZZ” from developers Yana Artishcheva, Stan Podolski, Arseny Popov and Dmitry Seregin was the runner-up in the consumer category with their AR game played on a table using printable markers. “Telepresence” from developer Benn Fronk was the enterprise runner-up, enabling medical experts to provide first-person guidance and instructions to individuals at off-site locations. Videos of the two apps can be viewed here.
“Our challenge attracted some of the best new developers in the AR glasses industry and they truly brought their ‘A’ game,” said Donald Brewer, president of Prelaunch.com, a platform for brands to manage and optimize the pre-order sales process. “Prelaunch.com looks forward to seeing these AR smart glasses apps available on the Epson Moverio platform for the benefit of consumers and enterprises.”

Micro projectors located on each side of the lens project transparent overlays of digital content directly in the user’s field of view over the real-world environment, while sensors enable head-motion tracking for hands-free navigation.
